No auditions, no experience required. Shower singers and pros share the fun in this warm, welcoming group.
The GMC adult chorus is our original ensemble, now 100+ members strong.
We present two new concert programs every year, with live instrumental accompaniment.
Our music is as diverse as our membership: we sing every choral genre, arranged for mixed choir (SATB), female (SSAA) and male (TTBB) voices.
Our choir season is divided into two sessions, each culminating in a concert:
Fall (September - December)
Spring (January - May/June)
We meet for weekly rehearsals on Sunday evenings at
Central United Church, 150 Queen Street, Moncton.
All members, regardless of musical proficiency, should plan to attend rehearsals regularly and practise their parts at home.
The GMC membership fee is $125 per session. This includes a package of sheet music (yours to keep) and audio tracks to help you learn your part.
No choral experience or prior musical training is required. If you can match pitches accurately (carry a tune) and learn new music, whether by ear or reading notes, you are welcome to join us.
At the first rehearsal, you will meet with our musical director, Melody Dobson, for a short placement interview. This is NOT an audition. Melody will ask you to sing an easy song (anything you like… Happy Birthday is very popular!) so she can place you in a section of the choir where your voice will blend in.
Every section of the choir sings harmony parts, which may feel daunting to you if you have never sung anything but the tune. Not to worry! It takes time (at least a few months), but with the help of the practice tracks and support from your fellow members, you will get the hang of it. Once you do, we know you will agree: singing in harmony is absolutely the best part of belonging to a choir!
